Tow Trucks and Highway Safety Vehicles Now Protected

A new Maryland statute in our Transportation Article adds another obligation for motorists. It is, however, a duty that provides valuable protection in roadside emergencies.

As of October 1, drivers must move to an open lane when they approach tow trucks, and other safety vehicles, tending to stranded motorists, or engaged in accident clean-ups, on the side of the road. In this manner, those providing such assistance will be protected from becoming accident victims themselves.
