Steven
T. Blomberg practices in a variety of areas. As the Law Firm’s
lead attorney in civil trial practice, he has litigated personal
injury, business tort, breach of contract, real estate,
landlord-tenant, and collection matters in Maryland’s state and
federal courts. He also performs legal services in the area of
business transactions and commercial lease matters. A graduate of
the Washington College of Law at American University in 1982, Steve
is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court and
the State and Federal Courts of Maryland and the District of
Columbia.
A practicing lawyer in Montgomery County for over twenty years,
Steve is also a regularly-appointed settlement facilitator for the
Circuit Court for Montgomery County, Maryland, having been appointed
in over 250 cases in the last ten dozen years. With a settlement
rate of over ninety percent, Steve is able to utilize his
negotiating skills to bring parties together to resolve their cases
short of trial, and is able to use these abilities to assist his own
clients in negotiating fair and reasonable settlements where the
nature of a dispute calls for a resolution before trial.
In the area of personal injury, Steve has been successful in
representing clients in negotiating settlements with insurance
companies or litigating matters in court. He was part of a team of
attorneys that obtained what is believed to be the largest verdict
in a wrongful birth case in the history of the State of Maryland.
A member of the Maryland Trial Lawyers Association, Steve has
lobbied legislators in Annapolis seeking to change laws which are
detrimental to injured parties. He has spoken to key legislators on
the issues of parent-child immunity, comparative negligence, and has
constantly fought insurance companies in their attempts to pass laws
unfair to consumers who are injured by negligent drivers.
While business litigation covers many things including breach of
contract, enforcement of commercial leases, and enforcement of
covenants not to compete or solicit, Steve’s practice concentrates
in assisting businesses large or small in collecting debts due and
owing to them. During the 1990’s he was retained by two different
national financial institutions to assist in the collection of a
$27,000,000 judgment and a $5,500,000 judgment. Later, in 2003,
Steve was hired by the Commonwealth of Virginia to help collect over
$10,000,000 from a judgment debtor in Maryland. Mr. Blomberg was
successful in all of these matters as the lead Maryland attorney and
collected each and every cent due and owing to these clients. He
also handles collection matters in the thousands and tens of
thousands of dollars range. He utilizes the same intensity and
effort in collecting smaller debts as he does in collecting
multi-million dollar judgments.
When he is not in the office or the courtroom, Steve is active in
the community where he both works and lives. A long-time member of
the Gaithersburg Jaycees, he served as a member of the Board of
Directors for that organization as well as the legal counsel for
several years. Subsequently, Steve became active in the Germantown
Chamber of Commerce prior to its merging with the Gaithersburg
Chamber of Commerce in 1999. He served on the Board of Directors for
the Germantown Chamber of Commerce for eleven years and served as
its Chairman during the 1992-93 fiscal year. On over two dozen
occasions, Steve testified for the Upper Montgomery County Region
before the County Council in Rockville, and the State Legislature in
Annapolis. Based on these efforts, Steve was subsequently asked to
participate as a member of the Communications Committee for the
Black Rock Center for the Arts that is the centerpiece for the Town
Center in Germantown.Steve has also spent much of the last two decades working with,
first, the Upper Montgomery County YMCA, and, then, the YMCA of
Metropolitan Washington. As a long-time member of the Committee of
Management for the Upper Montgomery County YMCA, he served one term
as the Chairman of the Committee of Management, and three terms as
the Chairman of the Partner With Youth Campaign. He recently stepped
down after serving his third three year term on the Board of
Directors for the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington and has been asked
to speak to numerous area YMCA’s on issues involving fundraising and
volunteer involvement. In 2001, Steve was elected as an Officer of
this organization and served on its Executive Committee.
Steve’s commitment to the YMCA and its youth programs is evidenced
by the fact that he has won three awards as the top General Campaign
Fundraiser for the Maryland Branches YMCA, and personally raised
over $50,000 for these programs. Mr. Blomberg has also acted as an
emcee and an auctioneer at other YMCA fundraising events which have
raised tens of thousands of dollars for YMCA programs.
Steve acted as the Auctioneer for the 2004 Women’s Bar Association
of Montgomery County Tri - Annual Charity Fundraiser and will do so
again in March of 2007. He helped raise thousands of dollars for
area charities and helped not only in the auction but the
solicitation of items for sale.
Steve lives in Germantown with his wife of twenty-five plus years,
Karen, and his sons, Keith and Max. A graduate of Seneca Valley High
School, Keith is now attending Frostburg State University in Western
Maryland. While he does not get to spend as much time as he would
like watching his childhood heroes, the New York Mets, play
baseball, Steve regularly can be seen at Frederick Keys, Washington
Nationals and Wizards games as well as at Max’s sporting events.
