Gerald K. Gimmel is
active in all aspects of business and corporate law and serves
as general counsel, legal counsel, and business advisor to many
local and national companies. Jerry assists business clients
with the growth of their companies, the negotiation of contracts
as well as with the sale of their companies.
In addition, he is the Firm’s senior attorney in the areas of
wills, trusts, estate planning, Medicaid planning, tax planning
and elder law. Mr. Gimmel has been counseling clients in the
area of estate planning since the 1960’s and has helped many
people with small estates ensure their modest savings get to the
right people as well as help those with more substantial estates
achieve tax savings that have exceeded $200,000.00 in a single
estate. He has personally assisted several thousand people with
their Wills, Trusts, Health Care documents and tax planning
while focusing on accomplishing their estate planning goals.
A graduate of Georgetown University Law School in 1967, he is
admitted to practice in the U.S. Supreme Court, Maryland,
District of Columbia, and Federal District and Appellate Courts.
Jerry’s experience as an estate planning attorney for over 30
years has resulted in his being requested to lecture throughout
the Washington Metropolitan Area. In addition to participating
in lectures on estate planning for local retirement communities
and numerous government agencies, Jerry lectured to groups of
Federal Bankruptcy Judges in Seattle, Washington, and Denver,
Colorado, on issues regarding estate planning and estate
taxation. Jerry is an active member of the National Academy of
Elder Law Attorneys and appears before the Circuit Court for
Montgomery County, Maryland, in cases involving estate and
probate issues.

since 1973, has participated in its Estate & Trust Law Section
and is well known at the Register of Wills Office for Montgomery
County.
In addition, Mr. Gimmel’s involvement with Hospice Caring, Inc.,
described below, allows him to assist families dealing with
terminally ill loved ones in a way that far exceeds that
normally expected of an attorney. His ability to direct clients
to the appropriate agencies to assist families in crisis, and to
give advice based on his years of experience, makes him unique
among estate planning attorneys.
Jerry’s knowledge of business law and business organizations is
also instrumental in assisting clients with estate planning. For
example, arranging for the appropriate transition of management
and transfer of ownership of a family-owned business to a
business owner’s loved ones upon death. It is this unique
combination of knowledge of both business and estate planning
law that allows him to give tax saving advice along with
transitional advice to keep successful businesses stable and
growing.
Jerry is a past President of the Montgomery Village Rotary Club
and has been on the Board of Directors of the
Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce since 1990, serving
as Vice-Chairman of Finance from 1997-2000, Chairman-Elect in
2001, Chairman in 2002, and Past-Chairman in 2003. From 1998 to
2002, he served as President of the Board of Directors of
Hospice Caring, Inc., a Montgomery County organization providing
compassionate care services to the terminally ill and their
families as well as to the bereaved. Jerry’s tireless Pro Bono
and community efforts resulted in the City of Gaithersburg
declaring September 1, 1998, as Jerry Gimmel Day.
Jerry and his wife, Carol, are long-term Montgomery County
residents, and Jerry is a graduate of Bethesda-Chevy Chase High
School. He is the extremely proud parent of three adult children
who have all been successful as owners of their own businesses,
